Christmas bakehouse in the Bread Museum of Alsace

La Maison du Pain d’Alsace offers a culinary journey into the heart of Christmas traditions, combining a museum, a bakery and a tea room.

• In the bakery, the aroma of Christmas specialities fills the air as bakers craft puff pastry Christmas trees (‘sapain’), gingerbread, schnitzlaïwel, christolle, berawecka and other delicacies, not to mention their range of nearly 35 varieties of bredele, all made and baked on site. The tour also gives visitors the chance to watch the bakers at work as they prepare these treats.

• A tea room completes the promise of a delightful experience.

• The museum, housed in the former ‘poêle’ (guild hall) of the bakers’ guild dating from 1522, is well worth a visit! The history of bread and festive culinary traditions are celebrated through a sensory experience and a family-friendly quest exploring Christmas legends. It’s also an opportunity to learn about the tradition of the Christmas tree in Sélestat and the importance of good food in Christmas celebrations

From 1 to 25 December, in the spirit of an Advent calendar, a different speciality will be showcased each day and prepared for tasting.
