The Guirbaden Castle
Mollkirch
Description
The Guirbaden Castle, which bears witness to the time when Alsace was part of the Holy Roman Empire, was built between the 10th and 12th centuries. Surrounded by the Vosges Forest, the Guirbaden is 1 km away from the village of Mollkirch, on the hills overlooking the Bruche Valley. It is the castle with the largest surface area in Alsace (2 hectares) and certainly one of the oldest as well. Out of the enclosure and the buildings, today only the main dwelling, the keep, sections of the surrounding wall and Saint Valentine’s Chapel remain. It offers a magnificent view of the Plain of Alsace and Bruche Valley.
