Lecture - Mozart and Freemasonry
Obernai
Description

As part of “2026—The Year of Mozart,” Lionel Haas, director of the Municipal School of Music, Dance, and Drawing, will give a lecture on Mozart and Freemasonry. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was, in fact, a Freemason during the last seven years of his life. The Masonic order also played an important role in his work.
Freemasons used music in their ceremonies and adopted Rousseau’s humanist view of the meaning of music. “The purpose of music in Masonic ceremonies is to foster noble thoughts and unity among members.”
