Description
Claude Schnitzler is a French organist and conductor born in Strasbourg.
He studied organ, harpsichord, conducting and composition at the CNR in Strasbourg, before completing his training as a conductor at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, while giving numerous organ recitals in France and abroad. In 1971, he was appointed titular organist at Strasbourg Cathedral.
After joining the Opéra du Rhin as a vocal coach, in 1975 he became Alain Lombard's assistant at the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg and at the Opéra du Rhin, where he has since conducted numerous productions. He regularly collaborates with the Opéra de Paris, where he directs operas and ballets.
In 1986, he took over the direction of the Orchestre de la Ville de Rennes, combining this role with that of permanent conductor of the Opéra du Rhin. From 1989 to 1995, he conducted the Orchestre de Bretagne, and continues to appear at the helm of France's leading orchestras, as well as numerous opera houses abroad.
His career has been marked by eclecticism, dividing his time between opera, symphony concerts and organ recitals.
